A Weekend in Verona from Rome — Perfect Itinerary 2026
Rome and Verona are separated by less than 3 hours by train. Two completely different cities — one an eternal, cosmopolitan capital, the other a small medieval gem of human scale — yet perfectly connected for a weekend getaway.
If you live in Rome and are looking for a destination different from the usual, Verona offers art, romance, great food and an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else in Italy.
How to Get from Rome to Verona
🚂 By train — Frecciarossa and Italo trains connect Rome Termini to Verona Porta Nuova in about 2 hours 45 minutes / 3 hours, with frequent departures throughout the day. Buy tickets at trenitalia.com or italotreno.it
🚗 By car — About 5 hours on the A1 and then A22 motorways. A long journey, not the most recommended option for a short weekend.
✈️ By plane — It is possible to fly from Rome Fiumicino to Verona Villafranca airport, but considering airport transfer times, the train often remains the more convenient and faster choice.
Our advice is always the train — comfortable, relaxing, and takes you directly to the centre of Verona without worries.
